Dave (a.k.a Stixx Bixby ) has been studying drumming in different
forms
since the age of 12. Growing up in south central Long Island, he has been
lucky to learn from the vast array of brilliant music and amazing teachers
in
the New York City area.
After playing drums in various musical outfits throughout high school,
Dave went on to study percussion at the Aaron Copland School of Music.
There
he studied classical, contemporary, and Latin percussion with Michael
Lipsey.
Along with performances in school and out, he took classical timpani
lessons
with Roland Koloff of the Julliard School and the New York Philharmonic.
Constantly attending concerts and clinics by masters of classical, jazz,
Latin, and rock music, Dave was incredibly inspired to create and perform
for
a livingbut how and with whom?
Enter Mike, Pat, & Brendan into the picture. They had invited fellow
West Islip High School graduate, Stixx, to rehearse with them during summer
break from collegeBLOO was completealmost. Stixx Bixby had a friend named
Earl that he met in music school and the New York Youth Symphony. Earl
played violin on BLOO's first demo in late '95, and was invited into the
band. The quintet's first electric live show was in March of '96 @ Cornell
University. Since then, Bixby and his Bloomates for life, have been moving
forward & onward with Poppa-Bloo (Dave's dad) managing the group.
